CCC’s artistic talent was showcased in the General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC) Florida, Clearwater Community Women’s Club Student Art Competition.
The Women’s Group wanted to spotlight high school artists in the area by asking Clearwater High School. Clearwater High School never replied to the Women’s Club, so only CCC participated. In this competition, junior Nick Johnson placed first, junior Claire Lee placed second, and senior Kaylee Magazine placed third.
Together, art teachers Andrea Obenland and Jeanette Gasper looked at art pieces made by current art students and narrowed the art pieces down to three prospective choices to showcase youth art. The Woman’s Group met and voted on first, second, and third place winners. All winners won gift cards to Michael’s.
Johnson’s inspiration was a vibrant Asian style. He like the form of bamboo and incorporated his favorite colors, red and gold into his painting as well. Johnson used acrylic paints to paint his art on canvas. Johnson also entered his artwork in a Youth Art Show in Crystal Beach and won 50 dollars for it. Lee had never drawn a bird before and had decided to make a bird the inspiration for her artwork. She painted with watercolors. Magazine’s inspiration was a look of time in the past and used watercolors to make her art come alive.
The competition showcased only some of the artistic talent CCC holds.
