Every Tuesday this school year, the Technology Club has been featuring Tech Talk Tuesday in the library after school.

The presentations are directly following the end of school and last for around one hour.  Senior Will Whitlock is in charge of running the meetings.  “We try to talk about things people are interested in,” said Whitlock.

At the beginning of the year, attendance ranged between five and seven people, but has raised to around 12 to 15 people per meeting.  Whitlock hopes Tech Talk Tuesday will continue throughout the whole year.

At the meetings, different topics are discussed weekly.  Although the lessons are based on technological topics, Whitlock wants people to know that one does not have to be technology based in order to attend.

“The point is to educate people,” Whitlock said when asked if a student must be familiar with the material to understand.  He also said that all students are welcome, and one does not have to be a member of the Technology Club to gain admittance.

A wide variety of students have attended Tech Talk Tuesday, including freshman Danny James, seniors Chrissy Melendy and Alex James, and multiple other students from all four grade levels.  The mediators of the meetings are media specialists Karen Johnson and Cyndi Kibby.

Whitlock himself has been interested in technology since he was in the fourth grade.  He says he has been programming since as early as the seventh grade.

Attendance in the Technology Club and Tech Talk Tuesday has been growing, and all students from all grade levels are welcome to attend these meetings or to join the club.  Whitlock and the Technology Club want people to know what they are doing, and the students that are already attending are not all technology geniuses.

This year, the Technology Club is doing weekly activities such as Tech Talk Tuesday, and will also be doing long term projects such as building a computer.

To join the technology club, all one must do is attend a meeting and sign up.  Unlike other clubs on campus, no dues are collected.  For information on the Technology Club or Tech Talk Tuesday, contact Will Whitlock, or any member of the club.
