Farmers’ markets promote a “green” lifestyle

Farmers’ markets are a good place to practice the “green” lifestyle.

These marketplaces offer an array of locally grown vegetables and stands from local businesses. The stands range from completely cheese, to smoothie cafes, to local bakeries, such as Sweet Caroline’s.

Dunedin hosts a farmers’ market every Friday from mid-Oct. until April in Pioneer Park. This park is located on the corner of Main Street. Dunedin Green Market has stands such as Just Plumerias, Pierogi Place and Zocalo Salsas.

Clearwater offers a farmers’ market from mid-Nov. to the end of April every Wednesday.

A benefit of buying from farmers’ markets is that the food is purchased locally. Because of buying locally, it helps build a community and promotes energy conservation.

“Farmers’ markets make me so happy, and I am always excited to go to them because you never know what you will find there. You can have a stand selling blackberries right next to a stand for hemp socks. I always feel like I am going green and helping out the local community while getting some of the best deals of my life,” senior Aubrey Danielson said.

  1. Rachel Baskin Says:

The Farmers Market is a great idea. Most of the food they sell is organic and at my house that pretty much all we have. Also, the money is kept locally which helps build things in the community like parks.
