When considering corpses, the average Central student is usually put off by the typical features of the dead: decomposition, stench, and an all-around feeling of disgust, most likely coming from the setting in of Rigamortis. However, theMuseumofScienceand Industry inTampa is welcoming the dead with open arms instead.

That’s right, more than 40 mummies are arriving in the bay area as a part of the Mummies of the World exhibition tour. Among the deceased are an eighteenth-century European family, an ancient Egyptian cat, and a mummified Peruvian girl dated 6,420 years; that being said, it is 3,000 years older than King Tut.

The Mummies are estimated to draw in several thousands of tickets, but nowhere near the amount of tickets sold from the past record setting exhibit, “Bodies, the Exhibition”. It is also ironically, the last occasion the museum hosted the dead in an exhibit.

This exhibit will only be held at MOSI during its duration in Florida. It is currently being set up, and opens April 21. So whether you’re taking Mrs. Kilch’s Biology class, or Ms. Stuebner’s I.B. History of the Americas, any Marauder could gather some valuable information from their visit to MOSI, and the Mummies of the World exhibition.

Stroll into the store and you’ve entered a time capsule. Rows upon rows of clinquant clothes gleam upon your eyes, illustrating a timeline of fashion. But this isn’t a time machine; this is thrifting.

Due to the current condition of the economy, numerous students have begun to partake in “thrifting.” Once identified as infamous flea markets, these thrift stores have struck a gold mine in the fashion industry.

Stores like H&M, Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 have restored these past trends of blazers, loafers and high waisted shorts into their clothing couture. However, as the shoppers’ desires escalade, the prices rise with them. At urbanoutfitters.com, a simple black blazer remains priced at $78; at a thrift store, it could be listed at $15.

“I don’t usually thrift, but when I do it’s because it’s cheaper. There’s no way I’m paying over $50 for a jacket,” said junior Katerina Ivanov.

Although it’s a pertinent factor, price isn’t the only reason accumulating this trend. The items are from the era, therefore its authenticity shines as a timeless treasure.

“I thrift because, one, it’s cheap and I have no money, but the main reason is because I love vintage, nostalgic things. People dressed way better back in the day,” said junior Hayden Penn.

Tuesday night, the first annual Spanish party was hosted by the Spanish Club and Spanish Honors Society in the McLaughlin Center.

The night was filled with festive Hispanic food and music. In addition, projects that had been done by students about Spanish speaking countries were displayed around the school’s cafeteria.

Spanish teacher Patty Ceraolo was in charge of the organization of the event, which was this year’s version of the Spanish Christmas party that had been put on in past years.

“There were too many events during Christmas so we tried this as a substitute,” said Mrs. Ceraolo, “and it worked out nice, we had about 60 or 70 kids show up.”

The McLaughlin Center was decorated with the projects of Mrs. Ceraolo’s students. The projects were done on many different Spanish speaking countries.

“The goal was connecting curriculum with celebrating the Hispanic cultures,” said Mrs. Ceraolo.

Many students from all grade levels attended the party. “It was very nice,” said freshman Delaney Abood, “the food was delicious, and I enjoyed the Spanish music.”

If someone really doesn’t know what today’s fastest growing trend is, they may not have checked their wrist. Watches.

For years it seemed like they weren’t appreciated; what with the rise of technology, and the ability to simply whip out ones phone to check the time. However at Central, watches have made a dramatic comeback; not as a tool, but more as a fashion accessory. One must only leave the classroom to now notice the new addition to student’s outfits.

Some watch companies have become extremely popular since the watch’s rise in popularity. One in particular is G-Shock by Casio. First designed in 1983, G-Shock’s were formally used mostly by outdoorsmen, athletes and members of the military.

Now with the watches transition into brighter, more stylish colors, they have found their way to the wrists of many Marauders. Many welcome this growing fad as a classic accessory, despite the technological era we are so familiar with.

In a world of fried food and unhealthy snacks, all the junk consumed can get become too much. Well CCC students have had enough. Have you ever heard of a body cleanse? Well you’re about to.

What seems to be a new trend among students is something called the body cleanse. The main purpose of the cleanse is to flush all the toxins out of the body and “start fresh”. Most cleanses consist of drinking nothing but water and eating nothing but fruit, vegetables, and nuts for a week.

While challenging, the body cleanse is rewarding.

“I did the cleanse to clean out my system and, after five days, I felt fantastic!” said sophomore Ashley Norus.

The body cleanse has even spotlighted the everyday habits of inadequate eating and inspired its undertakers to eat healthier after their purifying week was over.

Some call it Singles Awareness Day whilst others refer to it as Cat Appreciation Day, but CCC sticks with celebrating February 14 as Valentines Day. The day can either be heart warming, or heart wrenching depending on your relationship status, but one thing promised is a day in which you won’t be lonely.

Many options are offered to spread the love. The Lit Mag has been selling beamers, which can be purchased for merely a dollar and sent to any faculty member or student of your choice. If you really secretly admire somebody, you can send the message anonymously. The beamers are sent out with either a flower or a baggy of candy.

Our very own version of EHarmony is also offered for students. Your soul mate may very well be wandering the halls and you don’t even know it, but with the help of the student matchmaker, you will. All you need to do is fill out a simple question and answer.

CCC has our very own Cupid spreading the love throughout the campus.

The statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary at St Petersburg Catholic High School was set on fire this past weekend in an act of vandalism.

The fire was intentionally set in the grotto that housed the statue, but police confirm that it was not a hate crime. The culprits are suspected to be teenagers, as littering the scene were candy bar wrappers and empty soda cans.

The fire blackened parts of the statue, and took off one of Mary’s hands. The tiles around the whole area are now completely charred as a result of the blaze. The damages are said to cost between $500 and $700.

The statue’s history goes back to the mid 1960s, when girls at Notre DameAcademybought it as a gift for their school. In 1973, the Academy and Bishop Barry High School, an all boys’ Catholic high school, merged to become St. Petersburg Catholic High School. The statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary was moved to St. Pete Catholic in 2005.
