In a world of fried food and unhealthy snacks, all the junk consumed can get become too much. Well CCC students have had enough. Have you ever heard of a body cleanse? Well you’re about to.

What seems to be a new trend among students is something called the body cleanse. The main purpose of the cleanse is to flush all the toxins out of the body and “start fresh”. Most cleanses consist of drinking nothing but water and eating nothing but fruit, vegetables, and nuts for a week.

While challenging, the body cleanse is rewarding.

“I did the cleanse to clean out my system and, after five days, I felt fantastic!” said sophomore Ashley Norus.

The body cleanse has even spotlighted the everyday habits of inadequate eating and inspired its undertakers to eat healthier after their purifying week was over.

Some call it Singles Awareness Day whilst others refer to it as Cat Appreciation Day, but CCC sticks with celebrating February 14 as Valentines Day. The day can either be heart warming, or heart wrenching depending on your relationship status, but one thing promised is a day in which you won’t be lonely.

Many options are offered to spread the love. The Lit Mag has been selling beamers, which can be purchased for merely a dollar and sent to any faculty member or student of your choice. If you really secretly admire somebody, you can send the message anonymously. The beamers are sent out with either a flower or a baggy of candy.

Our very own version of EHarmony is also offered for students. Your soul mate may very well be wandering the halls and you don’t even know it, but with the help of the student matchmaker, you will. All you need to do is fill out a simple question and answer.

CCC has our very own Cupid spreading the love throughout the campus.

The statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary at St Petersburg Catholic High School was set on fire this past weekend in an act of vandalism.

The fire was intentionally set in the grotto that housed the statue, but police confirm that it was not a hate crime. The culprits are suspected to be teenagers, as littering the scene were candy bar wrappers and empty soda cans.

The fire blackened parts of the statue, and took off one of Mary’s hands. The tiles around the whole area are now completely charred as a result of the blaze. The damages are said to cost between $500 and $700.

The statue’s history goes back to the mid 1960s, when girls at Notre DameAcademybought it as a gift for their school. In 1973, the Academy and Bishop Barry High School, an all boys’ Catholic high school, merged to become St. Petersburg Catholic High School. The statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary was moved to St. Pete Catholic in 2005.

If you were granted the power—the power to do anything, to achieve anything, to be anything—would you take it?

Directed by Neil Burger, Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper, The Hangover) accepts this offer as he watches his wretched career as a writer skyrocket, becoming an invincible individual as he conquers the entity of New York.

One pill. One single pill, that’s all it takes. As Morra sulks around in the streets while grim, dull lighting depicts his all-time low, he’s welcomed by an old friend and ex-brother-in-law, Vernon (Johnny Whitworth, 3:10 to Yuma).

But this family gathering isn’t a typical reunion. Upon this encounter, Vernon presents Morra with this ultimate opportunity- to access his entire brain.

After swallowing the pill, NZT, suddenly Morra is “clear.” The luminous lighting instantly illuminates his paradigm, enhancing every sound, visual and knowledge, as the score heightens. But with great power comes great consequence, and Morra’s desirable power is of the utmost importance to inferior individuals.

Limitless resides in DVD and Blu-ray format, and can be purchased at numerous stores. After one viewing of this thrilling film, it’ll surpass any expectation hindered by the brain.

   “States!” responds the team.

The girls have recited these words during their butterfly stretch before every practice and game this season. After their five to one win over King’s Academy Tuesday night in the regional final, the Marauder’s ambition became a reality.

The girls’ varsity soccer team will play in the state semi-final Friday night against American Heritage School.

The game will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night at home. The team is ready for their biggest game of the season so far.

“We’ve been waiting for this all year,” said junior Victoria Rodgers. “I’m so excited,” she said, “this is the farthest I’ve ever gone in high school.”

The red hot Marauders enter Friday’s game having scored 26 goals in the past five games, while allowing just two.

Admission to Friday’s game is seven dollars for all, including students.

The first week of February is put aside to honor Catholic schools. This year the theme is “Catholic Schools: Faith, Academics, and Service.” This theme was chosen to focus on the three key points that set Catholic schools apart from the public and private schools: Children are taught faith—taught of history and how to have a relationship with God; academics, which in Catholic schools are held to high standards; service, the giving of one’s time and effort to help others, which is taught both as an expression of faith and good citizenship.

The Catholic Schools Week 2012 logo is a rectangle, with the words Catholic Schools in red across the bottom of the rectangle. The “t” in Catholic is a purple cross and from the right top corner of the T/cross is a green banner with words in white lettering that proclaims “Faith, Academics, and Service.”

The national Catholic Schools Week celebration became an annual event in 1974. Individual dioceses and local Catholic elementary and high schools develop and promote their own activities each year.

Catholic Schools Week Mass was celebrated Monday with Bishop Lynch and Superintendent Alberto Vasquez Matos. During it, Father Franz was awarded a faculty jacket and with the Superintendent’s blessing is now an honorary staff member of CCCHS. Free ice cream was passed out at lunch to provide the students with a treat.

The last goal of Catholic Schools Week 2012; service, will be acted upon on Friday. The sophomore and junior class will disperse to many needy charity organizations around Pinellas County to put faith into action. Some volunteer opportunities include, cleaning up parks, helping at St Catherine of Sienna Parish, or volunteering at Pinellas Hope.

Central’s Lady Marauders are charging down the path towards victory as they gear up for their first regional soccer game today at 7:00 p.m.

The girls are confident as they move into their first round match due to their remarkable shut-out win against rival St. Petersburg Catholic High School last week in the district finals. With a final score of 4-0, they gladly accepted the first place trophy, something that the team hasn’t done in a long while.

“It feels really amazing to be district champs, and it feels even better since we beat such a huge rival of ours, especially because of last year’s devastating loss [against them]. We’ve been preparing for this all year, and I think we’ll continue to play with the same confidence and enthusiasm that we’ve had all season,” senior Alex Alberdi said.

Alberdi attributes their high performance this year to a sincere team unity that is undoubtedly displayed on and off the field.

The Marauders (both boys’ and girls’ teams) will have the home-field advantage throughout the regional tournament this year, giving the entire student body the opportunity to easily come out and support their fellow classmates.

The boys begin their district tournament, also to be played entirely at CCC, on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., facing off against SPC in their first match.

“I think this is going to be our year,” Alberdi said.
