Aim! Fling! Oink!
Yes, those are the mannerisms of the new American pastime: Angry Birds. However the same cannot be said for the new Angry Birds board game, “Knock on Wood”.
“Knock on Wood” is rated for ages five and up. However, I would not recommend this tiresome game to anyone out of the age range of five to nine. The game consists of plastic pieces for the various birds, assorted pigs, and one very colorful slingshot. The goal of the game is to knock down as many pigs as possible by hurling vibrant birds in their direction via slingshot.
As fun as the video game version may be, the board game isn’t as carefree or manageable. It takes too much time to set up. Cards drawn by the players indicate the “castle” needed to be built in order to knock down the pigs. Once the castle is built, the pigs are placed inside and act as targets. It sounds simple, but the time-consuming building of the castles causes too much frustration because they are constantly falling down mid-construction. This may be fun and challenging for little kids but can be very repetitive and arduous for adults.
Because of the popularity of the video game version of Angry Birds, the board game is in high demand. Knock on Wood was released in May 2011. As of September 27, 2011, both Target and Amazon were completely sold out of the game and Toys R Us had one left on the shelf priced at $16.99. However, it is highly possible that this craze will end once everyone has a copy of the board game, plays it once, and then sets it on a shelf to collect dust for a few years.
Still, “Angry Birds: Knock on Wood” was not an absolute failure. If you are in a patient mood, the board game can be interesting and out of the ordinary, and even a bit of a nail-biter. The point system the game uses is clever and the game is reasonably priced.
Perhaps destroying plastic wood with multicolored birds is a good release, but the creators of “Angry Birds” should just stick with making video games.

I like how the writer of this article finds the board game that relates to the video game. i would prefer the video game than the board game, because the board game seems too time consuming.

I liked this article because I did not know that it was around before it was the most popular game on the iPhone. I still rather play the game on my phone over a board game.
